Christopher Oleata's exhibition in Tuscany
"Sognando la California" - Palazzo dei Priori - Volterra - from December 23th 2008 to January 1st 2009

The exhibition of the Californian Artist Christopher Oleata was held in Volterra in the suggestive and historic Palazzo dei Priori which the first stones were laid in 1208. The print reproductions of the original oil paintings were hung on the walls of the Sala del Giudice Conciliatore and the visitors were surely fascinated by the beautiful landscapes. Many of the paintings represent seascapes at dawn and dusk on the beaches of La Jolla California, where the Pacific Ocean touches California's dramatic landscape. And there are also a number of large paintings representing Californias great mountains of the Sierra Nevada. Christopher Oleata was born and raised in La Jolla California (USA). His passion for the ocean and the mountains has taken him on adventures all over the world. From these journeys he gets the inspiration for his paintings which are deeply connected to nature. His paintings are created using classic techniques and are enhanced by the studies he undertook at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) where he received a BA in Fine Arts. The Artist exhibited in Volterra and the show was a moment for Volterra to encounter an international artist and satisfy their love for modern art. This exhibit is a collection of paintings of many of the fabulous beaches of La Jolla as well as the suggestive landscapes of Tuscany. With this project the Artist Oleata concentrates on the marvelous landscape of California, his native land. A particular aspect of his oil paintings is the combination of hand-made iron rust powder with the oils. His paintings are generally large with vibrant colors or sepia-toned rust paintings. "Sognando la California" came to be from a special homage to his favorite places and the ones he was shown in Volterra by Dr. Marisa Roberto. Now that he knows this Tuscan city he has created a parallel to the cliffs of La Jolla and the Balze of Volterra which is the inspiration for his new paintings. With this exhibition in Volterra Christopher wants the viewer to experience these favorite places that are so foreign and distant from each other and yet so much the same.
